FAPR 231 - Papermaking


Through slide lecture/demonstrations and films, this studio course introduces students to all aspects of traditional Western and Japanese papermaking techniques including pulp preparation, sheet formation, pressing, and drying sheets. Students learn refined, professional methods as well as explore the creative versatility of pulp. Classes include: casting three-dimensional objects and bowls, building subtle relief images in colored pulp, and painting with pulp. Various fibers explored throughout the semester include unique ones made from garden vegetables and indigenous plants. Formerly PR 207
