MAFL 101 - Freshman Film


A short survey of film and video production, with an emphasis on the artistic possibilities of this medium. Topics cover elements of narrative, the poetics of film (early historical experiments, dream form, and visionary film), the documentary idiom (propaganda, social analysis), video as an art form and kinetic design in the commercial sector. Students write two short papers and prepare a treatment for a work in film or video. Studio assignments concentrate on storyboard development and group shooting projects. Formerly PF 128

Priority enrollment to Foundation majors.
