LACR 007 - English as a Second Language I

Prepares students for whom English is a  second language to produce the kinds of  writing expected of them on the college level,  and to improve their reading and critical  thinking skills. This is a two-semester requirement. LACR 007 provides a review of English  grammar, sentence structure, and paragraph  development. It focuses primarily on the  development of fluency in writing and  reading. The second semester, LACR 008, focuses on the  different kinds of prose techniques and on  responding in writing to readings and to the  work of other students. A workshop format  engages students in collaborative learning  activities.  Credits for  LACR 007 or LACR 008 do not count toward graduation.  On rare occasions, students may be  exempted from LACR 008 by the instructor.  LACR 007 008 are graded on a pass/fail  basis. A student who successfully completes  the sequence enters LACR 101.
