LAAH 815 - Art in Renaissance Europe

The painting, sculpture, architecture, and decorative arts of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries in the major artistic centers of Northern Europe and in Italy are studied. The course compares and contrasts the works of painters such as Jan Van Eyck and Masaccio; and sculptors such as Claus Sluter and Donatello, who enriched both the habitations and churches of their secular and religious patrons and the proud and expanding mercantile cities in which they lived.
