Minor Advisor

Description

The history of visual arts minor is comprised of 15 credits: five courses in visual art history (not including AHST 101 and 102), taken within the Division of Liberal Arts. These five courses may not include discipline history courses required by the student’s major program.

Academic Policy

Minor programs are governed by the minor policy published on the the enrollment & registration  page in the policies  area of the catalogue.

Admission to the Minor

CAMD Open to all students.
CPA Open to all students.
DLA Open to all students.

Students seeking entry into the History of Visual Arts minor should submit a statement of intent defining their areas of interest and anticipated focus of their capstone work.

Capstone Course & Research Project

For their final course in the minor sequence, students should work in a subject that has captured their particular interest. In the context of this course students will produce a research paper, to be presented orally, on a topic approved by the instructor.

On approval, students may arrange for this final course to be a guided independent study in a gallery or museum. In such cases, students will work with the Art History minor faculty coordinator on a research paper and oral presentation describing and evaluating the experience.

Minimum Grade Requirement

A grade of B or higher is required in each course to remain in the minor.

  • Select 1 course from the ancient or medieval art course listing below
  • Select 1 course from the renaissance or baroque art course listing below
  • Select 1 course from the 19th century, 20th century, or contemporary art course listing below
  • Select 1 course from the non-western art course listing below

Capstone Course complete one of the following:

  • Select 1 course from any of the four areas below
  • An independent study (requires approval by minor advisor)
