Description
The MA in Museum Education is a three-semester program that prepares students to lead learning experiences in museums and cultural institutions. Students build skills to design, manage, and facilitate learning for all audiences in a museum setting. Small student cohorts allow for a personalized learning experience and mentoring from program faculty, who are museum professionals active on the local and national level. Professional internships and exchanges with the robust Philadelphia museum community supplement coursework in museum history and practice as well as educational theory and methodology.
Program Objectives
By the end of the program, students will be able to:
1. Describe the functions of a museum, including educational practices.
2. Apply educational theory to the development of programs for informal, learner-centered, learning environments.
3. Use appropriate educational strategies to engage learners from multiple communities.
4. Collaborate effectively with other museum professionals for program and exhibition development.
5. Build professional relationships and a portfolio in preparation for entering the education workforce.
