C O N T E N T S
Description
The Minor in Film & Media Studies gives students the opportunity to become experts in the analysis and interpretation of film and related media from the perspective of history, theory, aesthetics as well as from several critical lenses, such as race and gender theory. The Minor will also introduce students to the connection between the development of film and that of other visual arts.
Program Objectives
- Read and interpret the cinematic arts in a critically informed way according to technical, aesthetic, historic, and cultural significance, and from the perspective of various critical lenses, such as race and gender theory;
- Discuss and debate narrative, experimental, and documentary live action and animated film; television; screenwriting; and related media and other arts in a scholarly, intelligent, and original manner;
- Propose, research, write, and present analytical papers/projects concerning film and media arts, their history and aesthetics, and/or the technical processes of making film, television, and related work;
- Discuss and debate the relationship between film and other visual arts, such as painting and photography; and
- Understand the range of cinema arts, from industrially organized projects to independently produced pieces to the work of individual artists.
