FNDP 102 - Sketching the Human Figure

This course provides individuals who are not majoring in the visual arts with an introduction to some of the materials, methods, and processes useful when drawing the human figure. No prior experience with manual media or portfolio of work is required. The course introduces a basic series of drawing exercises using the figure as subject. Analytical and responsive approaches are compared and a range of materials including pencil, charcoal, and collage are used. The figure and the figurative volume in its immediate spatial environment are studied, and the ability to capture the gesture, appropriate scale, proportion, and mass of the figure are stressed. Homework assignments apply principles learned in class. Formerly FP 102
